السفينة

"وَكَانَ الطُّوفَانُ مِيَاهًا عَلَى الأَرْضِ". (سفر التكوين 7:6)

سفينة (الفُلك) نوح هي أحد أقدم وأشهر القصص التي تحتفظ بها الإنسانية في ذاكرتها؛ قصة تتناول الإبادة في مواجهة فعل حفظ الحياة، قصة عن مياه عظيمة تُفني لكنها في الوقت نفسه تُولِّد عالمنا. الإصغاء إلى قصة السفينة يعني الإصغاء إلى من كنّا وإلى من نحن، والإحساس بالمدّ من حولنا، ومعرفة أن النداء إلى تعريف ذواتنا والحفاظ عليها، وإلى صون جوهر هويّتنا، هو نداء دائري يتردّد في داخلنا مرة بعد أخرى.

في عالمٍ يتعرّض لتحوّلات بيئية واجتماعية وسياسية وتكنولوجية، نُدعى من جديد إلى تذكّر دورنا العريق بصفتنا رواة قصص، صنّاع أحلام، حماة المادة الفكرية والشكلية لواقع وجودنا. نحن نسعى إلى جمع وصون النسيج الرقيق للثقافة التي نعيش ونبدع في إطارها اليوم – الأفكار، التقاليد، القصص، الحركات والأصوات التي ورثناها عمّن سبقونا – وكذلك تلك التي نرغب في نقلها إلى من سيأتون بعدنا.

على مدى نصف عام، ستتحوّل جاليري شيختر إلى موقع بناء حيّ، حيث تتعاون حرفيّات وحرفيّون مختصّون بالفنون التقليدية على تخيّل وابتكار الجزء غير المروي من قصة الفُلك – بطن السفينة. ومن خلال عمل متواصل في النسيج، الضفر والتلبيد، سيتشكّل تدريجيًا فضاءٌ تشاركي يتكوّن من التقاء الحِرَف اليدوية المختلفة.

بالتوازي، وخلال فترة البناء، ستشكّل السفينة فضاءً للأحداث وبيتًا لاستضافة جماعة من المبدعات والمبدعين – فنّانين، وموسيقيين، وفنّاني رقص ومسرح – حماةً وناقلي معرفة، يكرّسون حياتهم لجمع وحماية "التقنيات الثقافية" للحياة في هذا المكان والزمان.

أنتم مدعوّات ومدعوّون لزيارة السفينة قيد الإنشاء، واللقاء مع الحرفيين العاملين على تشييدها أسبوعًا بعد أسبوع، والمشاركة في باقة متنوعة من الفعّاليات، أو زيارة موقع المشروع والاطلاع على المسارات والعمليات المختلفة التي تتطوّر في داخله.

Noah's Ark is one of humanity's oldest and most iconic stories in human history—a tale of extinction versus the work of life preservation, of ravaging waters that both destroy and give birth to our world. To listen to the story of the Ark is to listen to who we were and who we are, to feel the tides around us, and to recognize that the call to define and preserve who we are at our core is cyclical, resounding within us again and again.

In a world subject to environmental, social, political, and technological upheaval, we are called once more to remember our ancient role as storytellers, dream weavers, and guardians of the conceptual and formal fabric of our existence. We seek to gather and preserve the delicate threads of the culture in which we live and create—the ideas, traditions, stories, movements, and voices passed down by our predecessors, as well as the ones we wish to pass on to those who will follow.

For six months, the Shechter Gallery will serve as a living construction site where craftspeople specializing in traditional arts will come to imagine and create the untold part of the biblical story—the belly of the Ark. Through ongoing weaving, braiding, and felting, a collaborative space will gradually emerge from the interplay of different crafts.

During its construction, the Ark will serve as both venue and home for a community of cultural producers—artists, musicians, dancers, and performers—who are guardians and transmitters of knowledge. They dedicate their lives to collecting and protecting the cultural technologies of life in this place and time.

You are invited to visit the Ark as it is being built, to meet the craftspeople working on its construction each week, to participate in the various events, or to explore the project website and discover the different processes unfolding within the Ark.
